Soak the jowar and urad dal (and rice if used) for several hours, then grind them into a paste.

Fermentation:
Combine the batter and allow it to ferment overnight for a fluffier texture.
- Dosa: Add salt to the batter and water (if needed) to achieve a spreading consistency. Pour the batter onto a hot tava and spread it into a circular shape.
- Idli: Use the batter directly for steaming idlis.
- Other dishes: Jowar batter can also be used for making other dishes like jowar bhakri (a flatbread) or even instant jowar bonda.
